Tunnel Vision in Griffintown
Griffintown was among the first Montreal neighbourhoods to embrace the skyscraper, the nearby store, and the accelerated rhythm of urban living. A lifestyle more typical of cities like Toronto or New York felt almost unheard of in Montreal just a few years ago.
High-end restaurants, carefully designed coffee shops, and craft stores now compose much of the neighbourhood’s landscape. The rows of condominium complexes make you forget the duplexes and triplexes of Saint-Henri, just next door.
The resulting atmosphere is one of tunnel vision. The tall buildings clearly define the streets and circulation, creating the feeling of moving through a maze.
This image was taken in the busy heart of Griffintown. Far in the background, you can see the beginning of downtown. In the foreground, like in any given Montreal scene, a pedestrian jaywalks across the street.
